In part 1 I documented the ‘come hither’ fake job and the many anomalies that crop up in the conversation with the scammer. In Part 2 I detail the dialogs and T&Cs that describe the scam process.
Read on to see the scammer get tetchy when I ask reasonable questions but in the end kisses and makes up. For now at least.
Do I detect a slight irritation ? A definite issue with scammers, all types of scammers, is they try to intimidate you into STFU and not ask troublesome questions. Its a definite red flag when you encounter them.
The scammer is quite mean to a potential hire ! But no matter. Still, that’s another red flag. They won’t do Zoom or video calls which is just the obvious way to do remote instruction. Its beyond belief that one tries to ‘teach’ using texting, when other means of online instruction are available. What are they hiding ? Then there’s the contract issue ? I’m not an attorney but I wonder if employment laws are being broken here, in the state of California. Perhaps the state can go after these scumbags. Still, onwards to two days later.
So I try and get a little closer to the scammer because I’ve read that they too are exploited on some scammer-farm.
Yeah, ok, I’m turning on the charm here. Will it work ?
The charm offensive didn’t work. Never mind. Still that was an odd interaction. Scammers generally are only too eager to tout how much richer they are as a result of their enterprise and explicitly tell you that “you too will make pots of money”. That refusal to take the bait and boast of their wins is rather odd.
So after that little contretemps the scammer changes posture and we become buddies again. I’m up for it !
One keeps thinking, would you hire a flake like me, despite being someone who takes off when he feels like it. I have no special skills for these tasks. Tasks that are really easy that anyone can do. What’s so special about me ?
This post has got too long already and I haven’t even got to the cussing out bit. That will be in the next post.
